TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Former Sports Minister Adhyaksa Dault accused current Minister Andi Mallarangeng of skirting responsibility over the Hambalang scandal, as two buildings of the graft-plagued project collapsed on Thursday. According to him, this project had deviated far from the initial plans drawn up by the Sports Ministry during his era.

"How come Andi said he was continuing [work on] my policies? Which policy? This project was vastly different from the work done during my era. He is conveniently ridding himself of the responsibility," he told Tempo Monday, May 28, 2012.

Adhyaksa explained that the Hambalang project stemmed from the need for a new sports school to replace the Ragunan sporting school. In 2009, he said the Sports and Youth Ministry did proclaim the construction of a sports school at Hambalang. "But the funding was only Rp125 billion, not Rp1.2 trillion," he said.

He said that in the initial plan, the project did not take the form of a full-fledged sports center. He said the Rp125 billion budget was enough to build the entire sports school. "The initial plan was the construction of villas, not multiple-storied buildings. I knew the land [the project is being built on] could not be used for the construction of an eight-story building like the one now," he said.

Adhyaksa was surprised at the Rp1.2 trillion budget. He said such a huge budget was made when Andi became Sports & Youth Minister. "Rp125 billion is more than enough to build a sports school. So the idea to turn it into a sport center did not come from my era. All of it came from him, including the Rp1.2 trillion budget. Therefore, which one continued my policy?" he said.

It is suspected that the Hambalang Project is a problem. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating the Rp1.2 trillion project. Former Democrat Party Treasurer M. Nazaruddin disclosed that Democrat Party General Chairman Anas Urbaningrum and Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng were involved in this project. Member of DPR Sports Commission, Angelina Sondakh, and Sports Commission Chairman Mahyuddin were also allegedly involved in this project.
