TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Pertamina CEO Karen Agustiawan has confirmed that the state oil company will continue to work together with Iraq, its strategic partner, in facing challenges in global energy.

Karen added that cooperation with Iraq in the energy sector, especially in the development of oil and gas fields, first started in 2002 when concession permits were issued for the company to operate the Block 3 Western Desert field, which has proven reserves of 3 billion barrels.

Unfortunately, explorations in the block have been stalled due to financial issues and the US invasion of Iraq. “We are currently looking for the opportunity to work together with Iraq in reactivating the Block 3 Western Desert [field] and especially, to become the operator in the Tuba field,” said Karen met at her office on Tuesday.
