Cyber Security Awareness Day sees 630,000 pledges to secure electronic devices
SINGAPORE - The Government will continue its efforts to mitigate future threats, but infocomm security is also a shared responsibility, said Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Yaacob Ibrahim.
Addressing delegates at the Information Security Seminar on Cyber Security Awareness Day yesterday, Dr Yaacob said: "Everyone plays an important role in being vigilant and responsible to create a safe and secure cyber environment in Singapore."
To mark the day, 630,000 people yesterday pledged to secure their electronic devices - twice the number of pledges made last year by individuals and organisations.
This year, signatories are called to carry out actions such as installing or updating their anti-virus software, installing a personal firewall, removing personal particulars posted online, as well as restricting access for their social media profiles. The pledges came from government agencies, private organisations, enterprises and schools and junior colleges in Singapore.
Dr Yaacob said Singapore must ensure measures are in place to manage evolving cyber risks and challenges, adding that a Code of Practice was issued last year for Internet service providers (ISPs) to ensure that essential security was maintained.
"With the code in place, the Government and ISPs can collaborate further on efforts to improve the security of the Internet infrastructure in Singapore, such as through regular information sharing among the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore and ISPs on security incidents and cyber threats," he added.
