New minister and Parliamentary secretary sworn into office PDF Print E-mail

SINGAPORE - A day after the prime minister announced changes to his Cabinet, a new minister and Parliamentary secretary were sworn into office at the Istana today.

Presiding over the ceremony was Acting President JY Pillay.

Ms Grace Fu assumes the portfolio of Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, and Foreign Affairs.

She is the second woman to be a full minister in Singapore's Cabinet. The first woman minister was Mrs Lim Hwee Hua when she was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister's Office in 2009.

Also taking his oath was Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal who has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Transport. Professor Faishal is also an MP for Nee Soon GRC.

Present at the ceremony was Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Earlier, Mr JY Pillay also presided over the swearing in ceremony of a new Judge of Appeal and a new Judicial Commissioner.

Former Attorney General Sundaresh Menon was appointed a Judge of Appeal, while Senior Counsel Vinodh Coomaraswamy was appointed a Judicial Commissioner with effect from August 1.

Present at the ceremony was Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong.
