In English language media both here and abroad, news of the National Assembly’s decision to expel all opposition parliamentarians caused uproar.

But many readers of the biggest Cambodian news outlets would likely be surprised to hear the expulsion happened at all.

An examination by the Post of eight large Khmer-language media outlets revealed that only two had run stories – both relatively brief – about the controversial expulsion.

In lieu of reporting on the controversial decision, the stories that have run in recent days have focused solely on the furore surrounding opposition leader Kem Sokha’s S-21 comments.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 ? Malay graduates have been discriminated against by firms owned by the local Chinese and foreigners, Utusan Malaysia reported today in an apparent continuation of the Umno-owned daily’s attack on the community following last month’s general election.

The report was featured on Utusan Malaysia’s front-page with the headlines “Diskriminasi syarikat Cina berdasarkan kajian universiti awam. Graduan Melayu disisih” (Discrimination of Chinese companies based on public university’s research. Malay graduates marginalised), but the Malay-language paper did not name the public university nor the researcher that it said had carried out the study.

Yahoo! country manager Alan Soon says new framework creates confusion and unsettles users, media industry

SINGAPORE — Yahoo! has broken its silence on the new licensing rules for online news sites in Singapore, which kicked in on June 1. The response came in a posting on its webpage by Mr Alan Soon, Yahoo!’s country manager for Singapore and managing editor for Southeast Asia.
